Honestly, It’s Just That Hot

Some climactic data from the National Climatic Data Center on just how many temperature records have been broken this year alone.

So, it's hot outside. We know, thanks.

Even still, this NPR story is rather staggering.

According to the [National Climatic Data Center], 942 records were broken in just the first five days of the month and another 273 were tied.

Impressive. That is, until you hear just how many have been broken in the US for this year (and last).

...In the year so far, 23,283 daily high records have been set. Over the same period last year, there were 13,582 such records set. The number of records set, then, is up about 71 percent.
